Neomouv takes over Portuguese production partner Unibike

LA FLECHE, France – To create more opportunities for growth and innovation in the booming e-bike market, the French e-bike brand Neomouv via its parent company VAxE, has taken over an 80% share of its Portuguese production partner Unibike.

Unibike was already making almost all bikes for Neomouv and the French company wanted to secure its production flexibility. After a €4 million investment round in early 2022, Neomouv announced to push forward to increase its market share in France, but also in Belgium, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

Capital increase

The acquisition of Unibike has been made possible with the support of the company’s shareholders, including Sodero Gestion, a long-term investor. The capital increase raised by €2.7 million, with founder and CEO Philippe Vaxelaire remaining the majority shareholder. Neomouv reports that BPI and the banks Arkea, Crédit Agricole, and Société Générale provided their support to the project.

Based in Soza, Portugal, Unibike is renowned for its expertise in painting, assembly, and industrial development in the cycling industry. Founded by Sergio Ramos, the company operates a modern factory, which was commissioned in 2021. The company will continue to operate as a separate entity and take orders from third parties.

Expertise

The facility is equipped with automated painting lines for powder, liquid, and carbon painting processes. Its operators are experts in applying water-based stickers under varnish upon request. The accumulated expertise in these areas over more than 30 years is trusted by major international brands. The manufacturing facility meets high environmental standards and has the capacity to assemble up to 250,000 e-bikes per year.

“This acquisition will enable us to accelerate our development in the e-bike market, secure our production and increase its agility and capacity for innovation,” reports Neomouv. “Unibike will benefit from our expertise in e-bike design, procurement, and component sourcing.”

Strengthen e-bike market presence

Neomouv owner Philippe Vaxelaire emphasises, “We are determined to continue our commitment to democratizing the use of e-bikes among our customers by offering high-quality, reliable, powerful, and competitive products, as well as personalized services. This acquisition strengthens our presence in the e-bike market and expands our product portfolio.

Sergio Ramos adds, “I am delighted to see both companies coming together. Both are family owned and share values of proximity and engagement. The expertise of our two teams is complimentary and I am convinced that their common passion for innovation and excellence will enable them to write a new chapter in the history of the bicycle industry.”
